Couponing at CVS has a lot of moving parts, which might seem complicated at first. It’s actually useful, though, because the more discount styles a store offers, the more ways there are to stack deals and get thing at that nearly free price point we’re always working toward. They’re also fairly generous with their coupon policies, so that also makes it easy to stack discounts and rack up savings.

Loyalty Programs
As always, start off with their loyalty program, in this case, sign up for an ExtraCare Card. This card makes you eligible for lots of in-store promotions automatically, that you aren’t eligible for without it.
Then sign up for the Beauty Club for an extra 10% back in points *before* coupons. Before coupons. That’s a *lot* of points if you’re a drugstore makeup couponing person.
Also sign up for their Pharmacy and Health Club, so you can get $5 in ExtraBucks for every 10 credits you earn. There’s a variety of ways to earn credits, but the easiest is through filling prescriptions, especially if you’re on any long term medication that you refill regularly.
ExtraBucks
ExtraBucks are register printed coupons for future purchases. This is what creates those legendary mile long CVS receipts. ALWAYS check your receipts for what goodies are printed at the end.
The Coupon Machine
When you get to the store, head straight for the big red coupon machine. Scan your ExtraCare card or enter your number for a savings oriented Zoltan to give you coupons that predict your future, or, more likely, are based on your buying habits and current corporate promotions. Sometimes these coupons are really good, so don’t skip this part.

Manufacturer Coupons
Brings those clipped paper coupons in, CVS allows one manufacturer coupon per item. You can stack other CVS coupons and discounts on top of that coupon, and it’s often what pushes your deal into that nearly free area.
ExtraBucks Deals
Your card entitles you to lots of in store promotions, but always read the fine print on the tags – most have a 1, 2, or 4 item limit.
Roll Your Deals
If you’re buying multiples of a deal that gives you an ExtraBucks reward, you can buy 1 deal in a transaction, get the reward coupon, then use that coupon immediately in another transaction, for another deal. This is similar to the “rolling Catalinas” strategy, but specific to CVS.
You can also choose to put all of your deals into one transaction and pocket those coupons for another day, which might be the classier choice on a very busy day at CVS. As always, try to keep your store staff as happy as possible if you’re going to coupon regularly!
BOGO Deals
If CVS is running a buy one get one free deal, and you have a paper manufacturer coupon for each item, you can *use both coupons.* That means you get each item at half price (if their the same price), and your coupon value off of each one as well. That’s a rare, excellent policy.
Rain Checks
CVS will still give you rain checks for sold out items that are on a promotion. That’s handy for good sales on popular items – you get to buy it at the discount price once it’s back in stock.
Money Makers
CVS will NOT pay you money back if your coupons exceed the value of an item, but they will use your coupons up to the point where the item is free.
Discount Apps
Don’t forget to scan your receipts into Ibotta and Fetch Rewards for a little extra discount or cash back.

Honestly, as good as CVS is, I usually find slightly better deals at Walgreens for the same kinds of goods – it just seems like their points rack up a little quicker. I’m lucky to have a couple in my area, though, so I always check both store’s ads and coupons to find the best discounts each week. Your favorite products and brands might not be the same as mine, so definitely keep tabs on both!
