Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of ways to save at Aldi. Their prices are already really low to begin with, and they mostly carry store brands. There are a few tricks I’ve used to save some cash when couponing at Aldi, though.

Ibotta

Use Ibotta. I know I suggest that a lot, but when Aldi does have major brands (usually as special buys) the prices are typically at least competitive with other stores. If you can find one of those store brand things on Ibotta, it’s usually worth some decent cash back, making an already inexpensive item even less so. Ibotta’s ‘any item’ deals will also work with a lot of Aldi foods.

Clearance

Aldi has great clearance sections, but you have to be paying attention. At my locals they always put the clearance out of the way, often in a shopping cart with stickered prices, or way off the sides near the entrance or bathrooms. Sometimes it’s also mixed into that one aisle of random household goods that they cycle through all the time. The best saves I’ve made there have been in the clearance. $0.10 jars of frosting (but they’re green and it’s after Christmas!), Easter eggs after the holiday, low prices on fancy serving sets, and loads of red, white, and blue treat on July 6th. I guess the 4th isn’t a big holiday around here.

Another good deal I find over and over is on live plants. When orchids are done blooming they often sell for $1-2, but they aren’t junk. Put them in a sunny windows and water them at least once a week, ideally with ice cubes – NOT touching the leaves – and they’ll bloom again within a year. Pro tip: once an orchid has bloomed the first time, it’s SO much easier to get it to bloom again! Sometimes they have absolute steals on houseplants, and on things like mums and bulbs, again right after holidays. Greenhouses do an amazing job of getting those plants boosted up to bloom like crazy. You can coast on their hard work by taking even so-so care of them, and they’ll often thrive.

I suspect maybe I could use newspaper coupons at Aldi, but I’ve never tried it. I really shop Aldi because their prices are already low, their stores are tiny, and the staff is really friendly. But if you stay focused you can find some deals, too, which is even more reason to shop there!
