The Sunday newspaper inserts can be a goldmine of coupons, but you need to actually get your hands on those inserts for them to do you any good. There are a few ways to do that:

Sunday Inserts - browsing for coupons over coffee.

1. Get the paper. I know, what year is it? But your local paper should come with the inserts every Sunday.

2. Ask friends who are newspaper subscribers to give them to you if they aren’t using them. I’ve known plenty of people who get the paper, but rarely actually read the paper. A kindly neighbor might be happy to drop off their inserts in exchange for a cup of tea.

3. Hit up the recycling center. See if there are any clean copies of recent papers hanging around and grab the inserts from those.

4. Make friends at an office, library, or restaurant that gets the paper, and ask them to give you their inserts.

5. Buy them. This is what I do. Order them in advance, ideally in multiples of two. You can subscribe so they come to you automatically every week, which is a great idea for people who are just starting out couponing and building up their stockpile, or have a large family their shopping for. If you’ve been at it for a while and you’re just casually maintaining your stockpile (and you don’t have a house full of kids and pets), you might want to do what I do and order the last set of inserts each months, because it’s the biggest. You’ll get the regular weekly ads, plus the Procter and Gamble once a month insert.

Multiple Sets of Sunday Inserts

Why multiples of two? So often stores will have buy one get one free, or buy one get one half off offers on the shelf. You pick up your pairs of sale items, then, when you get to the register, you have pairs of coupons for the pairs items. Also, if you’re buying multiple coupon sets you can stack together the same pages from each set and cut out coupons more efficiently. I’ve found that two sets is perfect for single me to maintain my stockpile, but I used 6 sets when I was building. If I was a family I wouldn’t even consider less than 6 sets, especially living in a place with multiple Walgreens, CVSs, Walmarts, and grocery stores.

Where do you buy them? There are a few places that sell them online. You can either subscribe, or buy one offs (or 6-offs?) when you want to.

I order mine from sundaycouponinserts.com. I’ve found them to be competitively priced and flexible about how much I need to buy, and not forcing me into a subscription. There is some cost involved, so make sure that when you’re ordering you’re ready to get to shopping, it won’t save you anything to order your coupons and then not ever cash them in for good discounts!
